Meet Speedy Spud Brittany

Brittany C. is one of 26 Speedy Spuds who will run the 2026 Pittsburgh Marathon dressed in a potato costume.

I’m a mother, wife, teacher, cross country coach, and runner from Southern California. I started running in my mid-20s as a personal challenge, but it quickly became a passion and an important part of my life. Running has taught me discipline and helped me discover I’m capable of far more than I imagined. Since then, I’ve completed races from the mile up to the full marathon.

What race are you running?

Half Marathon

Why are potatoes your go-to fuel?

Carbs like potatoes are essential for runners—they’re great fuel and shouldn’t be feared. Whether it’s fries, hash browns, or a simple baked potato, they’re delicious and provide the energy needed for training and racing.

Favorite potato dish:

French fries are my favorite, especially with dinner the night before a long run or race. Cheesy scalloped potatoes and crispy breakfast hash browns are close seconds.

Why did you enter the Speedy Spud contest?

Two words: black and yellow. As a lifelong Steelers fan, visiting Pittsburgh has always been a dream. This race lets me experience the city as a runner while also checking off state #14 in my goal to run a half marathon in all 50 states plus DC—and it’s a great chance to show that carbs and potatoes are great fuel.

How are you prepping for the race?

Run. Eat. Teach. Rest. Repeat. I’m following a structured training plan with consistent mileage, long runs, strength work, and recovery days while staying intentional about fueling—potatoes included.
