The Speedy Spud Sponsorship celebrates the fantastic benefits of potatoes for athletes of all fitness levels!

Team Potato has selected one speedy runner to race in a custom-made potato costume at the event of their choice! Follow along here as our spud-tacular athlete trains, fuels, and competes.

Meet the First-Ever Speedy Spud, Izzy Aguiar!

In her quest to become the fastest tuber on two legs, Izzy shared in her application, “According to all known laws of aviation, there’s no way a potato should be able to get off the ground. As the Speedy Spud, I will show you how high the potato can fly.” Fly, she did. Izzy placed eighth in her age group, completing the BMW Dallas Half Marathon with an impressive time of 1:39 – that’s about a mile every seven and a half minutes! Congratulations to the first-ever Speedy Spud, Izzy!

Potatoes are more energy-packed than any other popular vegetable, making them the perfect fuel for any activity. They’re also a good source of potassium, which is essential for muscle function. To perform your best, put potatoes on your plate!

Potatoes Power Performance

Potatoes aren’t just delicious, they’re a powerhouse of nutrition for athletes worldwide!

Whether you’re training for your first 5K or already competing with elite athletes, potatoes help fuel your body so you can go the distance.

Did you know? Potatoes are a nutrient-dense vegetable that provides:

+

26g (9% daily value) of quality carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates are the primary fuel for the body and brain.

+

15% of your daily potassium, which is more than a medium-sized banana.

Potassium is essential for muscle functioning.

+

3 grams of plant-based protein.

Protein is a key component of muscle growth.

+

30% of your daily Vitamin C to help boost the immune system.

It also aids in collagen production, a major muscle tissue component.

+

2 grams of fiber.

Fiber helps regulate blood glucose and increases satiety, making you feel full longer (and preventing those mid-run hunger pangs).

+

110 calories for energy.

Easily digestible and more energy-dense than any other popular vegetable, potatoes are perfect for runners.
