Meet Speedy Spud Rachel

Rachel B. is one of 26 Speedy Spuds who will run the 2026 Pittsburgh Marathon dressed in a potato costume.

Hi! I’m Rachel from Malone, New York. I went to undergrad in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and now live in Louisville, Kentucky where I’m in my second year of dental school. I started running in 2023 while training fora Half Ironman.

What race are you running?

Half Marathon

Why are potatoes your go-to fuel?

Potatoes are versatile, filling, and delicious. You can eat them any time of day and prepare them in so many different ways, which makes them perfect for fueling training.

Favorite potato dish:

Garlic smashed potatoes or a classic baked potato.

Why did you enter the Speedy Spud contest?

I was inspired after seeing two of my favorite things—Pittsburgh and potatoes—come together.

How are you prepping for the race?

I’m preparing by racing locally around Louisville and cross-training with cycling and yoga leading up to race day.
