Robert K. is one of 26 Speedy Spuds who will run the 2026 Pittsburgh Marathon dressed in a potato costume.

Hi! I live in Crestwood, Kentucky, near Louisville, and work as an attorney for the U.S. Army at Fort Knox. I also serve as a Colonel in the Army Reserve. I’m married with three adult children and have a very energetic Boxer/German Shepherd mix named Radler. I started running regularly in 2006 and have never really stopped. Louisville has an incredible running community with races year-round that keep me motivated. I’ve competed in everything from 5Ks to marathons to 200-mile relay races. I grew up near Chicago but now proudly call Louisville home.

Why are potatoes your go-to fuel?
Potatoes are excellent running fuel—they’re versatile, nutritious, and easy to incorporate into any meal. During long training runs especially, they provide the energy I need to keep going.
Favorite potato dish:
Potatoes Au Gratin.
Why did you enter the Speedy Spud contest?
Potatoes have played an important role in my running and training, and I enjoy sharing how they can support a healthy, active lifestyle.
How are you prepping for the race?
I’m currently training for the Kentucky Derby Half Marathon on April 25, the week before Pittsburgh. I’m also completing Louisville’s Triple Crown racing series this spring, which includes a 5K, 10K, and 10-mile race.
