Meet Speedy Spud Terri

Terri L. is one of 26 Speedy Spuds who will run the 2026 Pittsburgh Marathon dressed in a potato costume.

Hi! I live in central Pennsylvania (hence my social handle @RunPennsyltucky), so I’m no stranger to hills like the ones in Pittsburgh. I ran track as a kid, but what I’m most proud of is returning to running as an adult and tackling longer distances.

What race are you running?

Half Marathon

Why are potatoes your go-to fuel?

As a vegan, potatoes are an easy choice for meals and running fuel. They’re packed with potassium—even more than a banana—and when other fuels get too sweet, a mini boiled potato during a run really hits the spot.

Favorite potato dish:

Lately I love mini potatoes boiled until just fork-tender, lightly smashed, seasoned, and crisped in the air fryer. Post-race loaded French fries are also hard to beat.

Why did you enter the Speedy Spud contest?

My lifelong love of potatoes made becoming a Speedy Spud an easy choice. My training base is strong enough for the Pittsburgh Half Marathon, and it’s close enough for me to travel to easily.

How are you prepping for the race?

I’m maintaining my running base and continuing my regular training, so I’m ready to take on Pittsburgh’s hills on race day.
