Meet Speedy Spud Queenlyn

Queenlyn Z. is one of 26 Speedy Spuds who will run the 2026 Pittsburgh Marathon dressed in a potato costume.

I’m a nursing student at Mount Aloysius College studying to become a labor and delivery nurse. I’m from Dornsife,Pennsylvania, where I first discovered my love for running in middle and high school while training for soccer and track. Over time, running became much more than conditioning—it’s now a meaningful part of my life. Some of my favorite runs are with my mom when I’m home, sharing miles, conversations, and time outdoors together. Even with the busy schedule of nursing school, running helps me relieve stress, stay active, and keep life balanced.

What race are you running?

Half Marathon

Why are potatoes your go-to fuel?

Potatoes are more than just my favorite pre-run fuel—they’re part of my everyday life. I’m preparing to marry into a potato farming family, so I’ve seen firsthand the hard work and dedication behind every harvest. Potatoes provide the natural carbohydrates that fuel my training miles, and running while being connected to the farming side of them makes every run even more meaningful.

Favorite potato dish:

My Grammy’s hashbrown casserole will always be my favorite. It reminds me of family gatherings and childhood memories. A close second is fresh-cut French fries—crispy, golden, and made even better when you know where the potatoes came from.

Why enter the Speedy Spud contest?

My love for potatoes, family traditions, and connection to our farming business inspired me to apply. This opportunity is a fun way to celebrate the food that fuels my running while supporting the family farm and the hardworking people behind every potato.

How are you prepping for the race?

I’m training by fitting runs into my busy nursing school schedule—often early mornings before class—and gradually building endurance while staying active and consistent.
