Meet Speedy Spud Josh P.

Josh P. is one of 26 Speedy Spuds who will run the 2026 Pittsburgh Marathon dressed in a potato costume.

I’ve been into running since childhood but really picked up in high school running Cross country and track. Stopped for a few years and had multiple knee surgeries, my surgeons don’t even want me to run at all, came back and its been a climb. Now my main goals for running are ultra marathons, training now for Badwater Cape Fear on March 21st. Then onto the Pittsburgh Marathon which was my first Marathon I ran when I was in high school. I’m from Kennedy township and a surgical tech at the veteran’s hospital in Oakland, father of two amazing girls, Riley and Emily, and married to the most supportive wife, Melissa.

What race are you running?

Full Marathon

Why are potatoes your go-to fuel?

Potatoes are my go-to fuel because there are endless possibilities for preparation, and they’re great for the machine.

Favorite potato dish:

Loaded fries cannot be beat!

Why did you enter the Speedy Spud contest?

Honestly, what inspired me to apply was my love for running and being given the chance to have fun racing.

How are you prepping for the race?

Training now for Badwater Cape Fear on March 21st and then onto the Pittsburgh Marathon.
