Meet Speedy Spud Danielle

Danielle M. is one of 26 Speedy Spuds who will run the 2026 Pittsburgh Marathon dressed in a potato costume.

Hi! I’m Danielle (@Danielle.Endures). I first ran hurdles in middle school (not well!), but my adult running journey started in 2019 with my first triathlon. After a concussion from a car accident that year, walk-jog 5Ks helped my recovery and sparked my love for running. Since then, I’ve completed 6 half marathons and a full marathon. I’m also training for the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming, so running keeps me grounded on land. Fun fact: my longest swim is longer than my longest run! I’m moving from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh and excited for Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend.

What race are you running?

Half Marathon

Why are potatoes your go-to fuel?

Potatoes are simple, stomach-friendly carbs with salt and calories—great for endurance fueling. I prefer real food over gels, so I’m experimenting with boiled and mashed potatoes while training for a 30km swim and the NYC Marathon.

Favorite potato dish:

Poutine, easily!

Why did you enter the Speedy Spud contest?

I love potatoes and racing in costume. I’m known for running in a Chiquita Banana costume (including a 10K PR!), so a potato costume feels like the next chapter. Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend also lines up perfectly with my move and plans to be there.

How are you prepping for the race?

I’m building mileage and hills ahead of my first half marathon in 2.5 years this April. I’m also dialing in nutrition—testing potatoes after Peeps proved too chewy—and will likely train on the Pittsburgh course once I’m local.
