Christine T. is one of 26 Speedy Spuds who will run the 2026 Pittsburgh Marathon dressed in a potato costume.

Hi! I’m Christine, originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I started running in 2017 after stepping away from soccer, a sport that had been a huge part of my life. What began as a transition quickly became a passion—running gives me a way to clear my head and challenge myself in an individual sport. The Pittsburgh Marathon was the first race I ever completed, which makes it especially meaningful to me. Since then I’ve run races like the Rocket City Marathon in Huntsville, Alabama, and recently started exploring ultramarathons. My next race is the33.3-mile Long Play Trail Run this March. When I’m not running, I’m usually underwater—I’m an avid scuba diver and cave diver, which led me to move to Crystal River, Florida to be closer to the springs.
What race are you running?
Full Marathon
Why are potatoes your go-to fuel?
Potatoes are versatile, reliable, and effective fuel. I can include them throughout the day—from breakfast home fries to roasted potatoes at dinner or even a quick snack—making it easy to fuel consistently without over complicating nutrition.
Favorite potato dish:
Pierogies—especially bacon cheddar pierogies.
Why did you enter the Speedy Spud contest?
The Pittsburgh Marathon has my whole heart. It’s my hometown race and the marathon that made me fall in love with running. Crossing the bridges, running through the neighborhoods, and feeling the city’s energy is unforgettable. Getting the chance to return and represent Potatoes USA would be a full-circle moment.
How are you prepping for the race?
I’m starting with the 33.3-mile Long Play Trail Run in March to build endurance before focusing on Pittsburgh. I’m also working with my coach, Angela, who helps me set realistic goals and push beyond what I think is possible. I’m hoping to PR at the Pittsburgh Marathon—there’s nothing better than chasing your fastest time on your favorite course in your hometown.
