Meet Speedy Spud Lexie

Lexie J. is one of 26 Speedy Spuds who will run the 2026 Pittsburgh Marathon dressed in a potato costume.

I’m Lexie. I’m originally from Idaho but now live on the beautiful Oregon Coast. I always enjoyed running casually, but I didn’t start running consistently until the end of 2021. After the loss of my sister, I needed a positive outlet, and running became that for me. What started as a way to clear my head quickly turned into a passion. Since then I’ve completed four marathons and my first Half Ironman.

What race are you running?

Half Marathon

Why are potatoes your go-to fuel?

Potatoes are my go-to fuel because they’re incredibly versatile and satisfying. You can prepare them so many ways, they pair well with anything, and they keep me fueled for long runs. Sweet potatoes are also a big staple in my kitchen.

Favorite potato dish:

Smashed potatoes with grilled fish—crispy, salty potatoes with fresh fish after a long run is perfection.

Why did you enter the Speedy Spud contest?

I love potatoes, and the challenge sounded like a fun and unique way to push myself. Running 26.2 miles is already tough—doing it in a potato suit just adds a hilarious new level and reminds me not to take running too seriously.

How are you prepping for the race?

I recently got a 10-month-old golden retriever who loves long walks and trail runs, so she’s become my training partner. Between road miles, coastal trail runs, and keeping up with a very energetic puppy, I’m getting plenty of training in.
