Meet Speedy Spud Lizzie

Lizzie Q. is one of 26 Speedy Spuds who will run the 2026 Pittsburgh Marathon dressed in a potato costume.

Hi! I’m Lizzie, and I’ve been running for about six years. I went on my very first run during the pandemic out of boredom and quickly fell in love with the sport. Since then, I’ve completed five half marathons, several 10-milers and 10Ks, and my first full marathon at the NYC Marathon last November while fundraising for Boston Children’s Hospital through the Miles for Miracles team.

What race are you running?

Half Marathon

Why are potatoes your go-to fuel?

During my first half marathon in 2021, I showed up with absolutely no fueling plan—and by mile 10 I was really feeling it. At mile 11, Potatoes USA handed out mini potatoes at the Washington DC Rock ’n’ Roll race, and that little spud genuinely saved my race and got me to the finish.

Favorite potato dish:

Home fries, especially alongside pancakes or French toast after a race.

Why did you enter the Speedy Spud contest?

After surviving my first half marathon thanks to a mini potato, joining the Speedy Spud team felt like the perfect fit!

How are you prepping for the race?

I’m building my 2026 race calendar with the Paris Marathon as my main spring goal, and I’m excited to carry that training into the Pittsburgh Half. I’m also doing plenty of hill training—because that mile 12 hill is no joke.
