Meet Speedy Spud Stacey

Stacey M. is one of 26 Speedy Spuds who will run the 2026 Pittsburgh Marathon dressed in a potato costume.

I’m a mom of two and an avid skier and runner. I started running in 2003 when I ran my first 5K with my sister. We began running together daily, and I quickly got hooked. I love the running community and believe people don’t grow alone—they grow in groups.

What race are you running?

Half Marathon

Why are potatoes your go-to fuel?

Potatoes are my go-to fuel because they keep me energized and satisfied during training and running.

Favorite potato dish:

My granny’s homemade mashed potatoes. I’ve tried to recreate them, but they’re never quite as good as hers.

Why did you enter the Speedy Spud contest?

I use potatoes as my main running fuel and eat them most days of the week. I was excited by the chance to connect with other runners who fuel the same way.

How are you prepping for the race?

I’m running five days a week with one long run each week while fueling with mashed and baked potatoes—sometimes adding tots for variety.
